Local Attractions

Walford Court B & B is situated in a small hamlet approximately 1 mile away from the old village of Leintwardine, known as Bravonium in Roman Times. The River Teme runs through the village, which is quintessentially English, boasting many local amenities, including a thriving school, beautiful church, an award winning butcher, post office and even a cash point!

Most importantly of course, there is a selection of popular local pubs and restaurants within the Leintwardine area. There is The Lion Inn - an historic old pub which stands beside the river, which has been re-furbished to a high standard, and ensures high quality dining in the restaurant or by the river and located just a mile away. We mourned the loss of Flossie at the Sun Inn - one of the UKs last remaining parlour pubs which has now been taken over by the local brewery - Hobsons, and together with Gary (ex-lord Mayor of The Sun Inn!) at the helm, have constructed a new and very sympathetic extension to the rear, with a beer garden. Apart from the extension, the main building of this very special old place has been left exactly how Flossie would have liked, so once again you can treat yourself to a drink in Flossie's front parlour and catch up on a bit of village news with the locals.

The Jolly Frog is a superb restaurant just outside the village which specialises in fish cuisine, or the Baron of Beef in nearby Bucknell offers a varied menu priding itself on local food plus entertainment - you can visit their website www.baron-of-beef.co.uk for more information. Another fabulous local pub where you can catch up on the farming news (!) is The Royal George at Lingen - which serves up THE BEST steak, and keeps a lovely log fire going! We keep a "Food glorious food" folder which provides details of the menus in the pubs and restaurants in the local villages surrounding Leintwardine.

There are also many attractions. Ludlow is a scenic 10 minute drive away, with its award for "slow living", and a packed schedule of events though the year including the ever popular food festival, Fringe and Jazz festival, Medieval Christmas Fayre, many Antique and Craft markets, plus the Ludlow festival in June and July which offers you an experience unique in open air theatre. Step back in time and experience the world of Shakespeare in the truly glorious setting of Ludlow castle. Visit www.ludlowfestival.co.uk for more information.

There is cycle hire nearby and many walks to be enjoyed amongst the beautiful and unspoilt scenery of Mortimer Country, or drive 15 minutes into Wales, and take a glorious walk along Offas Dyke. If you're not feeling energetic we're in the middle of black and white village country, tourist signs will guide you on a drive through the most picturesque part of "Olde England".

We have a good stock of wildlife books and binoculars if you wish to go "spotting", or jigsaw puzzles, games and books if you want to tuck yourself up within the historic and characterful confines of the old courthouse.

Whether its relaxation, activity or broadening your mind, this beautiful countryside location has something to offer. Once you've discovered us, you'll want to come back!
